Homemade Biscuits

 Delicious Homemade Biscuits

Welcome back everyone! Today I will be sharing a recipe for homemade biscuits. As I mentioned in my first post, I love to have nice warm biscuits and gravy for breakfast, so for my next post, I will explain how to make homemade sausage gravy.

Ingredients You Will Need
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 6 tablespoons of unsalted butter (it is recommended that you keep your butter as cold as possible)
  • 3/4 cup of whole milk (2% or buttermilk will work as well)
  • Optional: parchment paper for your cookie sheet and pastry cutter to cut your butter
  • Recommended: Biscuit cutter

How to Make The Biscuits

To start, it is recommended that you place your butter in the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes before making the biscuits, the colder the butter the better your biscuits will turn out.

You need to preheat the oven to 425 degrees and prepare the cookie sheet you plan to use by lining it with parchment paper. Set that aside for later.

Next, you will need to combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt into a large bowl and mix it together. Set that aside for later as well.

After that, remove your butter from the freezer and cut it into your flour mixture using a pastry cutter. Combine the butter and flour mixture until you have something that resembles coarse crumbs.

Now it is time to add your milk. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to stir the mixture until it is combined. Be careful not to overwork the dough.

Transfer your dough to a well-floured surface. Use your hands to gently work the dough together. If the dough feels like it is too sticky, add flour as needed.

Fold the dough in half over itself and gently flatten it out with your hands. Rotate the dough 90 degrees and repeat this 5-6 times.

Use your hands to flatten the dough down to about one inch thick. Use your biscuit cutter to cut out your biscuits. While doing so, make sure you make close cuts. Once you cut as many biscuits as you can, rework the dough so you can get a few more biscuits out of it.

Place your biscuits on the cookie sheet less than 1/2 inch apart and place in the 425 degree oven. Bake them for about 12 minutes or until the tops are turning lightly golden brown.

Remove your biscuits from the oven and coat them with some butter if desired.

I hope you all enjoy this recipe for homemade biscuits. Keep an eye out for my next blog post where I will outline the recipe for homemade sausage gravy to make with your biscuits!
