Homemade Chili

Hi everyone! I hope you are enjoying the recipes I am posting. Today I will be sharing a homemade chili recipe that I found that I think sounds delicious! I love to have chili when the weather starts to get colder. I feel like cooler weather and a nice warm bowl of chili go well together.

Ingredients you will need:

  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion -diced
  • 1 pound of 90% lean ground beef
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons of chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons of ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon of garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground cayenne pepper* -optional
  • 1 1/2 cups of beef broth
  • 1 (15 oz.) can of petite diced tomatoes
  • 1 (16 oz.) can of red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (8 oz.) can of tomato sauce
How to Make the Chili:

First you will need to add the olive oil to a large soup pot and place it over medium-high heat for about two minutes. You will then need to add the onion and let it cook for five minutes. While it cooks, stir it occasionally.

After cooking the onion you should add the ground beef to the pot. As you let it cook be sure to break it apart with a spoon. Let the beef cook for six to seven minutes or until the beef is completely browned. Make sure to stir it occasionally.

Next you should add the chili powder, sugar, tomato paste, cumin, garlic powder, pepper, salt, and the optional cayenne. Stir this mixture until it is well combined.

Now you can add the broth, diced tomatoes (with juice), drained beans, and tomato sauce. Make sure you stir this well.

Next, bring the liquid to a low boil. After that reduce the hear (low to medium-low) and let the chili gently simmer. Leave the chili uncovered like this for 20-25 minutes stirring it occasionally.

Your last step is to remove the pot from the heat and let the chili sit for five to 10 minutes before you serve it.

I bet this recipe would go great on a cool day with some buttered bread. I hope you enjoy making this recipe. Come back and check out my next post for more delicious recipes.
